Solis Scholarship supports next generation of mammography technologists

ADDISON, TX (Oct. 25, 2022) – Solis Mammography, the nation’s largest independent provider of breast screening and diagnostic services, has launched the Solis Scholarship Fund to provide financial support for full-time students in radiologic technologist (RT) degree programs who want to impact lives through a career in mammography, enhancing this critical professional pipeline.

RT students who plan to specialize as mammography technologists can receive up to $3,500 annually for up to two years to go toward tuition.

Mammography technologists are RTs who have received additional training to perform mammograms, operating advanced 3D X-ray technology equipment to capture multiple images of a patient’s breasts to help radiologists detect cancer.

In 2019, there was a 5.6% understaffing of mammography technologists in the United States, according to a survey by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. Experts say the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this workforce shortage.

“As the industry leader in breast health, we’re dedicated to developing the next generation of highly skilled and compassionate mammography technologists to bolster our mission of saving lives through early cancer detection,” said Grant Davies, CEO of Solis Mammography. “The Solis Scholarship Fund will help meet the need for exceptional mammographers, improving access to screening and diagnostic services in the communities we serve across the United States.”
