How to Prepare for Your First Mammogram
A little preparation can make your appointment go smoothly. Here's what to do:
- Wear a two-piece outfit so you only need to undress from the waist up. A privacy cape will be provided.
- Avoid deodorant, lotion, powder, or perfume on the day of your exam and the day before. These products can interfere with imaging.
- Bring your ID, insurance card and any prior imaging records if you’ve had a mammogram elsewhere, so your radiologist can compare them.
What Happens During a Mammogram?
The entire exam, from start to finish, takes about 10 minutes or less. A mammography technologist will guide you through it, and each breast will be briefly compressed twice to capture clear images.
