Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a doctor's order or referral to schedule a mammogram?

No, you do not need a doctor's order to schedule a screening mammogram at most of our locations. However, we do require that you provide the name of an established physician at the time of your appointment, in order to share your results with your doctor.

Is a mammogram covered by insurance?

Solis Mammography is in-network with most major insurance. For women 40+, your 3D mammogram is a covered preventive health benefit with a $0 out-of-pocket cost under most plans. Self-pay options are also available.

How long does a mammogram appointment take?

Most appointments only take 30 minutes. The mammogram procedure generally takes less than 10 minutes, with each breast getting compressed twice. Many women schedule their mammograms during their lunch break or in between other activities. Solis Mammography makes mammograms quick and easy with online scheduling, convenient locations, efficient appointments and fast results.

What's the difference between a screening and a diagnostic mammogram?

Screening mammograms are routine annual exams for women who are not experiencing any breast issues or symptoms of breast cancer. Screening mammograms usually take less than 30 minutes and results are received via email in two business days or less. Screening mammogram appointments can be scheduled without a doctor's order at most of our locations.

Diagnostic mammograms are for women experiencing suspicious breast changes, such as a new breast lump, dimpling or puckering of the skin, pain in the breast, or nipple thickening or discharge. A diagnostic mammogram includes additional targeted images used to evaluate the abnormal findings of a screening mammogram. Diagnostic mammograms take a little longer than a regular screening and you will have a consultation with the radiologist to determine if additional procedures are required. A doctor's order is needed to schedule a diagnostic mammogram appointment.

Do I need to do any prep before my mammogram?

If you are a new patient, you will need to send any previous mammography records to Solis Mammography prior to your appointment. Your previous images will be compared to your new exam images by our breast-specialized radiologists.

Additionally, follow the directions below to make your appointment go as smoothly as possible:

  • Don't apply deodorant the day of your exam. It can interfere with your images and cause an unnecessary return visit.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit. You will undress only from the waist up. We provide comfortable privacy capes to wear during your visit.
  • Avoid using any lotion, powder, cream or perfume the day before or the day of your appointment.

Once you check-in, you will be taken to a changing room where you will undress from the waist up. We will provide you with a comfortable privacy cape to wear before your exam begins. During your exam, one of our expert mammography technologists will guide you through the procedure, which takes no more than 10 minutes, with each breast getting compressed twice.

After your mammogram, you will change clothes and leave the center. Your results will be sent via email in two business days or less. Don't forget to schedule next year's appointment during check-in.

Does this center use AI to help read my mammogram?

Yes, our screening platform includes 3D Mammography enhanced with AI. FDA-cleared AI assists our radiologists in detecting earliest stage breast cancer.
